How Chiropractic Care Can Help with Chronic Pain Management

Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts for more than three months. It can be a debilitating and frustrating condition that affects millions of people around the world. While there are various treatment options available, chiropractic care is a safe and effective method for managing chronic pain.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders. It involves the use of spinal adjustments and manipulations to restore proper function to the body.

So, how can chiropractic care help with chronic pain management?

Address the Root Cause of Pain

One of the main benefits of chiropractic care is that it helps to address the root cause of pain rather than simply masking the symptoms. Many chronic pain conditions are caused by misalignments in the spine or other joints, and chiropractic adjustments can help correct these misalignments and restore proper function to the body. By addressing the underlying cause of the pain, chiropractic care can provide long-term relief rather than just temporary symptom relief.

Improve Range of Motion and Flexibility

In addition, chiropractic care can also help to reduce muscle spasms, which can also contribute to inflammation and pain.

Improve Sleep

Chronic pain can often lead to difficulty sleeping, and poor sleep quality can in turn worsen chronic pain. Chiropractic care can help improve sleep by reducing pain and muscle tension, and by promoting relaxation.

Drug-Free Pain Management

For those who are seeking a drug-free option for pain management, chiropractic care may be a good choice. Chiropractic adjustments are a natural and non-invasive method for managing pain, and they have few if any side effects. This can be especially appealing for those who are concerned about the potential risks and side effects of pain medication.

In conclusion, chiropractic care can be a valuable tool for managing chronic pain. By addressing the root cause of the pain and promoting healing and relaxation, chiropractic care can provide long-term relief and improve overall function. If you are suffering from chronic pain, consider incorporating chiropractic care into your treatment plan for a natural and effective approach to pain management.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Athletes

Athletes push their bodies to the limit on a regular basis, and it’s no surprise that they are prone to injuries. While rest and physical therapy are important for recovery, chiropractic care can also play a crucial role in helping athletes heal and perform at their best.

First, let’s define chiropractic care. Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders. It involves the use of spinal adjustments and manipulations to restore proper function to the body.

So, how can chiropractic care help athletes?

Improved Performance

Chiropractic care can help athletes improve their performance by optimizing the function of the nervous system. The spine is the home of the central nervous system, which controls all functions of the body. When the spine is misaligned, it can cause nerve interference and disrupt the body’s ability to perform at its best. Chiropractic adjustments can help correct misalignments and restore proper communication between the brain and the rest of the body.

Pain Relief

Athletes are no strangers to pain, whether it’s due to a specific injury or the wear and tear of training. Chiropractic care can help relieve pain by addressing the root cause of the problem. For example, if an athlete is experiencing back pain, a chiropractor may focus on correcting misalignments in the spine that could be causing the pain. In addition to addressing the cause of the pain, chiropractic adjustments can also help to reduce inflammation and improve blood flow, both of which can help with pain management.

Faster Recovery

When an athlete is injured, the goal is to get them back on the field or court as soon as possible. Chiropractic care can help speed up recovery by reducing inflammation, improving range of motion, and promoting the healing of tissues. Chiropractic care can also help prevent future injuries by improving the function of the body as a whole.

Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion

Chiropractic care can help athletes improve their flexibility and range of motion by addressing misalignments in the spine and other joints. When the body is functioning optimally, the muscles and joints can move more freely, which can lead to improved performance and reduced risk of injury.

Reduced Risk of Injury

Proper alignment of the spine and joints is crucial for optimal body function. When the body is misaligned, it can lead to an increased risk of injury. Chiropractic care can help athletes maintain proper alignment and reduce their risk of injury. In addition, regular chiropractic care can help athletes identify and correct any imbalances or weaknesses in the body that could lead to injury.

In conclusion, chiropractic care can be a valuable tool for athletes looking to improve their performance, relieve pain, recover from injuries, and reduce their risk of future injuries. Whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, consider incorporating chiropractic care into your training routine to help you perform at your best.

Awards 2021

2020 saw a period where pretty much everything changed in a blink of an eye. Including all Philippines traditional awards for the year. This is one thing Patricia & I dearly missed.

Well 2021 is trying to get back to some normalcy & so far we’ve been fortunate to receive a few awards on 2 separate occasions. Patricia & I have both been recognised for our humanitarian efforts. The clinic has been recognised for Icon Brand of the Year. & lastly Patrica was given Women of the World title for 2020.

Patrica & I are both honoured to receive such prestigious awards this year, especially after we’ve all been through in 2020. We’re so happy to see things starting to come back to life.

We are often asked, what’s the secret to our business success. Really there are 3 components to our success.

  1. Patricia is the marketing master & has a work ethic that just doesn’t stop.
  2. We have assembled an amazing team that believes in our mission.
  3. We deliver an amazing service.

Winning all of our awards is really a testament to those 3 components. We always give glory to god for without him none of this would be possible. We know he uses us to help all people live a healthier life.

Rope Climbs & Life

Nobody needs to hear from me that life is hard. Any adult already knows this. I like to focus on how we handle life’s obstacles.

Of course everyday we experience stress but for most people this is manageable. But every now & then we experience a much more severe form of stress. The type of stress that takes our breath away. We hear some bad news or experience extreme sadness. How do we handle these moments.

I’m fortunate because I’ve been around Patricia Javier for the past 15+ years. Anyone that knows her knows she’s one of most positive people you’ll ever meet. She has definitely taught me a lot. Remaining positive no matter the situation is absolutely a great place to start when it comes to handling stress.

Another powerful tool when it comes to dealing with stress is not giving the situation power. Don’t add fuel to fire by dwelling on it. Of course some situations are harder to do that than others but disarming a stressful situation is a fast way to move on. A great exercise to do this is writing. Putting pen to paper & allow your mind to flow. Write what you’re feeling, how feel & how you can improve the situation. Don’t give it power, disarm it.

Accepting the situation & moving on. Once you finally accept the situation & move on you’re basically liberating yourself from the stress. You’re giving your conscious mind the go ahead to be free of the stress.

There are so many ways to deal with stress. These are just a few that have recently come to my mind. In my last book I give some great tools on meditation as this method is proven to be highly effective when dealing with extreme stress.

No matter the exercise, no matter the therapy what needs to be done is forward motion. Without forward motion we are in quicksand.

Life is like rope climbs, it is painful, it will burn, you may want to quit but if you just keep putting one hand over the other & don’t quit you will make it to the top.

Please comment below what are some ways you handle stress. I’d love to hear your ideas.

Our Pillow Story

Most people don’t know that our pillow product’s all originated organically just like our chiropractic clinics. We had been living here in the Philippines for about a year & just opened our 1st Chiro branch in QC. I had yet to find an effective sleeping pillow, so we went to the top mattress / pillow manufacturer here in the Philippines. I was very impressed with their inventory as they had so many different pillows to choose from. We spoke with the owners & they let it be known they would manufacture my own pillow, I just had to give the design etc. I left with over 10 of their pillows so I could try them all & come up with the perfect pillow.

After a couple weeks of trying all of the pillows I was ready to make my design. The problem I encountered with their pillows was a slight flaw in each. The pillows’ were either too soft, too heavy or uncomfortable. I wanted to create an effective pillow that supports your neck while you sleep but also is very comfortable. From my experience this is the problem. The “effective” “cervical pillow” is uncomfortable & most people toss them after a few nights sleep.

After several months & several tries we came up with our 1st pillow. Now when it comes to pillows you’re definitely not going to please everyone. Everyone has different preferences but for me it was important to come up with a quality pillow that most people will enjoy. Over time we have come up with 3 different sizes because well everyone is a different size. We have small, medium & large. Our pillows are made of a memory foam on the outside & a mixture of soft foam in the middle to create that support. Our pillows are also shaped like a standard pillow, there is no fancy humps in the middle.

Over the years we’ve added to our pillow products. We now have pillows for lumbar support, neck support & side sleepers. I feel we’ve accomplished our goal of creating an effective & comfortable pillow. We will continue to modify & try to come up with the perfect pillow. For now, we’re enjoying our sleep a lot more now.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Everyone knows that losing weight is not easy to achieve. Countless health books and magazines suggest different tips and tricks on how to lose weight, but sometimes everything is still a matter of trial and error. While people focused on what and what not to eat, when to eat was often overlooked. However, with the popularity of intermittent fasting, losing weight becomes a different ball game.

Intermittent fasting strictly allows you to eat during a particular time. The catch is, some kinds of intermittent fasting allows people to eat normally on some days but extremely cut down on their calories for the next few days. Another one allows people to eat for some hours in a day, but completely fast for the remaining hours.

You may wonder, how does it work or is this diet trend safe? According to neuroscientist Mark Mattson, Ph.D, when the body is not able to absorb food for hours, it uses up sugar stores and burns fats. Intermittent fasting extends the period of time it burns the calories from your last meal, resulting in weight loss. Consequently, it offers other health benefits including lowering risks of type 2 diabetes and reducing inflammation in the body. This is probably because of the fact that when your cells are under mild stress because of fasting, its ability to fight such circumstances is strengthened and becomes ideal in combating diseases.

The two most popular intermittent fasting plans are 16/8 and 5:2. The 16/8 fasting is easier to follow and remember because it is basically eating for eight hours and skipping meals for the next 16 hours. On the other hand, the 5:2 approach gives you the freedom to eat regularly for five days and limits you to a quarter of your normal calories in a day for two days. That means you need to watch your calories up until 500-600 only. The best way to identify which schedule would work for you is by consulting with an expert in IF.

Intermittent fasting might be strict on when you should eat, but it is still necessary to pick the right kinds of food on the days or hours you can eat regularly. Everyone is still encouraged to choose healthy foods, and avoid desserts and processed foods.

It is also important to drink plenty of water during intermittent fasting to avoid dehydration. On days intermittent fasting can be really difficult to follow, water, tea, or coffee can help ease your feeling of hunger. With discipline and determination, intermittent fasting can guarantee you the result you want to achieve.

Keto Diet: Is it good for you?

Since 2016, the curiosity of people about ketogenic diet has been evident through different media platforms including Google Trends. Hundreds of Facebook pages about ketogenic diet are also available for anyone. Even celebrities have a huge contribution in disseminating information about its wonders. The now popular diet is often associated with ways how people can lose weight, but its effectiveness is often challenged by other health experts.

Does the ketogenic diet really work? Is it safe?

The human body needs food as its main source of energy to work on its daily activities. It uses the glucose from carbohydrate foods like rice, fruits, starchy vegetables, and more. In times when the body lacks intake of these foods, it burns fats as substitute and produces molecules called ketones. The process is called ketosis.

In the medical field, ketogenic diet or keto diet is initially for treatment of children with epilepsy, as it has been found to lessen the occurrence of seizures. Keto diet aims to use high-protein and high fat foods instead of carbohydrates as the body’s source of energy. However, it attracted more people when mainstream media widely considered it as a weight loss regimen. In order to make it work for people who want to lose weight, the Standard Ketogenic Diet (SKD) suggests 70-75% fat, 20% protein and 5-10% carbs. Among the biggest keto myths is that it has totally zero carbs. On the contrary, keto diet still has carbs, but sugar and starches are replaced with low glycemic carbs coming from vegetables. Carbohydrates are really effective in making anyone gain weight, hence cutting them from your diet can really make the difference.

Keto diet is a strict low-carb diet. It is important that people who want to try it know the right food to jumpstart their journey. These foods include high-fat meats, fish, oils, nuts, high-fat dairy, and low-carb vegetables. Among the foods you need to avoid are bread, pasta, rice, and most conventional baked goods. The best drinks to pair your diet with are water and unsweetened coffee or tea.

Despite its many benefits, keto diet is still not advisable to everyone, especially to diabetics and other people who have management problems with blood sugar. People with kidney problems are also discouraged from following the diet.

As a health & wellness expert I believe knowledge gives you options. The more you know about diet & nutrition the more you can experiment with your food. I’m not a huge fan of diets like this as they are not sustainable. I believe in becoming educated about nutrition & applying that knowledge to your life. I believe in balance, & stick with the 90/10 rule. I eat healthy 90% of the time.

How does chiropractic boost the immune system?

When the immune system is active, the human body gets to repair damage, fight infection, and prevent cancer cells. It is directly connected to the nervous system, which guides the immune system cells to where the damaged or infected area is. Failure of the nervous system to respond correctly to a damaged or infected area may result in autoimmune diseases or conditions in which the immune system can no longer differentiate the body’s own cells from foreign cells.

One of the reasons why the nervous system experiences malfunction is because of obstructions such as structural shifts in the spine and compression of nerve pathways. Freeing the nervous system from these obstructions allows the body to respond effectively. The best way to do that is through chiropractic. Chiropractic aims to remove interferences in the nervous system through spinal manipulation that not only boosts the immune system but also improves overall health.

Chiropractic has been found effective in helping boost the immune system. According to The Chiropractic Journal published in 1989chief of cancer prevention research at New York’s Preventive Medicine Institute and professor of medicine at New York University Ronald Pero Ph.D. found out in his three-year initial study that patients who received chiropractic care have 200% greater immune competence compared to patients who did not.

In 1991, Patricia Brenna Ph.D. also proved the positive effects of chiropractic on the immune system when her study revealed that patients who received chiropractic manipulation in the thoracic region have higher white blood cell response in the first 15 minutes.

In this time of the pandemic, people are advised to boost their immune system to protect the body against foreign invaders. Chiropractic certainly aids in the nervous system so the immune system can function properly especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a matter of fact, chiropractic has already been found beneficial during the 1918 flu pandemic. Studies show that 50 medical doctors were able to treat 4,953 cases, with 274 deaths in Davenport, Iowa while 150 chiropractors from Palmer School of Chiropractic were able to treat 1,635 cases with one death in the same city.

While chiropractic can be an excellent help in boosting the immune system, people should remember that prevention is always better than cure. It means that you do not need to wait for sickness before you start receiving chiropractic care. With a proper diet and healthy lifestyle, receiving chiropractic care soon can definitely keep you away from diseases, infections, and other sicknesses.

Why should I drink fresh vegetable juice?

Imagine having to eat 800 grams of fruits and vegetables daily to gain maximum protection against diseases and premature death. That is exactly what research suggests according to CBSNews.com.

Unfortunately, fruits and vegetables are not exactly everyone’s favorite, and not everyone also has the time to eat that much in a day. This is the reason why juicing has become a health craze many people go for. It is a refreshing and convenient way to let your body absorb nutrients.

Fresh juices have many amazing benefits. They still have the soluble fiber of whole fruits and vegetables, which is helpful in digestion. Aside from that, they have insoluble fiber that aids in lowering cholesterol. Since the body spends energy to convert solid food to liquid, drinking fresh juices also skips that part and saves the body’s energy. Furthermore, it is a healthy way to kickstart your weight loss journey.

In my book Doc Rob’s Guide to Better Health and Wellness, I shared 5 combinations of fruits and vegetables you can try with your juicer in the comfort of your own home.

Carrot and orange: Carrot and orange make a delicious drink that’s rich in beta carotene. Beta carotene is being converted to Vitamin A, which is good for the eyes. It is also beneficial for the lungs & kidneys.

Kale, apple, green grapes, and cucumber: Kale, apple, green grapes, and cucumber have high water content, which is ideal as a refreshing drink. It’s a powerful combination of fruits and vegetables that acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Creating an alkaline environment in your body is vital to creating optimal health.

Lychees, peaches, and coconut water: Lychees, peaches, and coconut water is a great combination for people who like something sweet without adding sugar. It is packed with electrolytes for hydrating the body and regulating nerve and muscle function.

Mango and pineapple: Mango and pineapple are both rich in Vitamin C. This fruity combination is best for digestion.

Tomato, kale, celery, and parsley: Kale, celery, and parsley are low-calorie green leafy vegetables that act as antioxidants. Combining it with the sweetness of tomato makes it a perfect drink for a healthier diet.

Juicing is a fun and revitalizing way to supplement your diet. Just remember to drink your fresh juice right away to avoid losing its nutrients and potency. While it is best to drink fresh juices with an empty stomach, don’t forget that it should not replace your meals.
